Race Tracks in Scale Proves How Mighty the ‘Ring is

Race Tracks in Scale

Redditor SirDunny posted a few (North and South) American track maps in scale a few days ago, but this update to include great racing circuits from around the world proves one thing fairly handily: The Nürburgring is not to be messed with. Only Pike’s Peak and La Sarthe even come close to the grandeur of the ‘Ring.

Imagine now if we lived in a world that could include the Mille Miglia or Targa Florio on this illustration. It only highlights that, as important as the Nürburgring is—and how vital it is that we save it—it is only the last best reminder of what racing courses once were.

SirDunny has made prints available at RedBubble.

  1. […] Tracks in Scale Thought this is interesting… Race Tracks in Scale Proves How Mighty the 'Ring is | The Chicane …they all fit within the Isle of Man TT course! Full size version, […]

All that chart shows is the sheer bloody righteousness of the Snaefell Mountain Course. I also like that the three classic Continental tracks are next to each other (the ‘Ring, Spa, and Le Sarthe).

    • Harlo says:

You’re right, Captain Ned. I didn’t mention the TT course since it’s only a race track for a few days a year—but then I go ahead and wax romantic about the Mille and Targa… Let me say it loudly now, Isle of Man knows how to host a proper race.

      • Captain Ned says:

And those morons are out there on 2 wheels at close to 200 MPH on the long straights. There’s been a fatality there every year since 2002, so they know what they’re getting into.

  3. Peter Sneddon says:

I really think that the Mt Panorama circuit near Bathurst in Australia would probably fit in with the “grandeur” of those other circuits mentioned

    • Captain Ned says:

I’ve certainly enjoyed it since it first hit American eyes around 2008 or so, followed by DW crying about The Dipper.

  4. Johannes says:

Most impressive is the Targa Florio that is containing all the other tracks !!! Also spotted the Avus very long straight line

  5. Barton Brown says:

Yes, the ‘Ring is magnificent, but did no one notice enclosing ALL the tracks, including the Nürburgring, is the outline of the Isle of Man Snaefell Course, 60.725 km per lap? Kind of important.
