Enter the Sprite

Austin Healey Sprite Ad - 1958

Enter the Austin Healey Sprite

Roy Salvadori takes the Sprite into a bend …a touch on the brakes …drop down to third …into controlled drift …foot hard down in third

On the reverse of this ad was printed the chassis and drivetrain. Holding the ad to a window showed an “x-ray view” of the car. Creating an interactive print ad in 1958 is pretty impressive.

What’s more, here’s video of Roy Salvadori’s referenced road test of the Sprite at Silverstone:

Great stuff! I think I remember the ad from old Road & Track mags

  2. Gary Mason says:

My first car (1958). Owned three over time, and wish I had one now.

  3. Fred says:

My fist sport car as well around 1972

Always wondered what Bolster sounded like! Salvo was one of my heroes–seems like he was winning something in every issue of Autosport (which came weekly to my mailbox!) My uncle replaced his MG TC with a Bug eye and happily its still in the family and newly restored.
