Ron Howard’s Rush Trailer Released

If the trailer is anything to go on, Ron Howard has taken his look at the rivalry between Hunt and Lauda very seriously. Even better, there are darn few obvious uses of CGI racing in these clips. I don’t know why Hollywood can make perfectly realistic dinosaurs or Gollum, but every instance of CGI auto chases plows straight into uncanny valley and looks like crap.

I think the CGI looks a little…overbearing. But I still think the movie could be well worth watching. I still think it would have been better to use the actual crash footage interpsersed with live action rather than video game style angles of the accidents that actually take you out of the action by putting you in physically impossible places.

The CGI makes everything look too perfect…. but I guess that’s better than not having a movie at all. I think a 1930’s Silver Arrows movie could be great too…

This looks reasonably promising to me, especially given that the last big budget movies to tackle motorsports that I can think of were The Fast And The Furious (What are they on now, like the 9th underglow-and lambo-door-ridden installment?), and Talladega Nights.

Oh, please…not more Hollywood drama “based on a true story”. Let’s see more cars and less actors trying to be cool. Too many Americans get their history by watching movies already.

  5. Looks beautiful – but some of the dialogue is a bit corny.

I hope they listened to Nikki. So we have Hunt/Lauda. What happened to the Phil Hill film??
