And as some poor guy found out on the Pendine Sands of Wales, chain drive has a structural limit. Pass that limit and the chains decapitate you when they break.

I was at meadowbrook a couple of years ago and had the opportunity to watch a couple of fellas go through the impressive starting ritual. Once fired, the earth literally shook beneath my feet. The pistons must be the size of coffee cans.
